Role Overview
As a Systems & Operations Engineer, you will keep our messaging and customer engagement platforms running smoothly across both our bare-metal data center and cloud environments. This is a highly proactive role with a direct mentorship track to learn advanced Kubernetes (K8s) and database administration from our senior engineering team.
This role requires working fully on-site from our office in Pula to facilitate close collaboration and daily in-person mentorship.
🛠 Key Responsibilities
1. Application Operations & SaaS Deployments
- Execute customer installations of our platforms on dedicated servers.
- Monitor system and application health via Grafana dashboards, keeping an eye on critical metrics like RabbitMQ queue depths, Elixir node performance, and Postgres disk usage. Configure and refine Grafana alerting thresholds to catch issues before they affect customers.
- Act as first-line incident response when a service drops, RabbitMQ queues get stuck, or high traffic spikes occur, escalating to the engineers when deep code intervention is required.
2. Junior Database & Infrastructure Administration
- Manage Postgres storage strategies, monitor disk usage, optimize log retention, and handle user/service access permissions.
- Shadow and assist in maintaining, troubleshooting, and scaling our Kubernetes clusters.
- Collaborate with our engineers to maintain high security standards, ensuring all changes comply with our internal network security protocols and access controls.
- Automate repetitive IT tasks using scripting to minimize manual maintenance time.
📊 Requirements & Qualifications
- Experience: 1–3 years of experience in a System Administrator, Application Support, or IT Operations role.
- OS & Scripting: Strong proficiency with Linux environments (Ubuntu/Debian) and solid scripting skills (Bash or Python) to automate manual work.
- Monitoring Tools: Hands-on experience or familiarity with Grafana (and underlying data sources like Prometheus) to analyze metrics and troubleshoot performance anomalies.
- Databases: Comfort writing basic SQL queries and a solid conceptual understanding of database storage, backups, and user management (Postgres experience is ideal).
- Networking Basics: Solid grasp of fundamental networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, SSH, VPNs, and basic port forwarding).
- Mindset: A highly proactive troubleshooter who digs into log files to find root causes rather than just blindly restarting systems.
Bonus Points If You Have:
- Direct exposure to Docker or Kubernetes concepts.
- Experience managing message brokers like RabbitMQ or cache layers like Redis.
🎁 What You’ll Get
- Direct Mentorship from Industry Experts: You will get dedicated onboarding and daily guidance from our Principal Engineer and our Infrastructure Engineers who will actively teach you the ins and outs of production Kubernetes clusters.
- Real Growth Opportunity: You will work directly with a high-scale tech stack alongside senior experts who are eager to share their knowledge. As you master our environment, you will gain hands-on experience with production database administration, infrastructure architecture, and advanced technologies like Kubernetes.
- Regular 1-on-1s & Feedback: You’ll have consistent, dedicated alignment check-ins with the Head of Engineering to discuss your career goals, clear blockers, and ensure your engineering skills are progressing.
- High-Throughput Scale: You will get hands-on experience troubleshooting high-throughput infrastructure (SMS, Viber, WhatsApp messaging) operating on both bare-metal data centers and modern cloud environments.
